I seek not what you show, I seek what one cannot see.
Born in 1982.
Raised all over India. Now living and working in Mumbai.
Graduated in Business Management from the University of Mumbai – St. Andrews College in 2005. After working for 5 years in the video game industry (from where originated the pseudonym “Storm”) and treating photography like a mistress; Shivaji left everything to pursue his true love of storytelling through photographs. In those 5 years he managed to hone his skill of photography while also working a full-time job. Working on various photography assignments while with The Times of India and covering India Fashion Week, Shivaji felt unsatisfied with his work. He decided he needed a more formal and academic understanding of his craft. In 2011, Shivaji attained a Masters Degree in Fine Art Photography from The Arts University Bournemouth, England.
Shivaji now is an independent artist and a freelance image maker who works in Fashion and Advertising with a fine art approach. A lot of his work is inspired from modern and contemporary artists like Saul Leiter, Alexander McQueen, Helmut Newton, Salvador Dali to name a few. Most of his work predominantly reflects the contrasting nature he carries within himself, like an oxymoron. Deep lit up colors which otherwise go unnoticed, loud and imploding silences in his pictures speak volumes of his perception of the world as a storyteller. Always the one to choose unusual subjects for his pictures; he gives us a window into his perception of beauty and its intricacies in the visual arts.
In his mainstream work in Mumbai, India, he has created some refreshing editorials for Femina, Grazia and The Week. The list of his celebrity subjects includes names such as Dia Mirza, Kalki Koechlin, Radhika Apte, Aditi Rao Hydari, Vicky Kaushal, Richa Chadda, Soha Ali Khan, Gulshan Devaiah, Priyanka Bose, etc. He has recently diversified into Direction and Film Making with clients like Adidas, Jade and Birla Gold Cement.
However, he continues to pursue his interest in portraiture photography in his personal time.
